Awards And Nominations

I don't submit myself for awards. I was raised to believe that any award we deserve is one we didn't ask for. It's silly, but that stuff sticks!

  • December 2020- Campfire Publishing Contest Winner

Campfire ran a self-publishing contest back in 2020. The prize was $3,000 put towards the winner's book costs. They ended up liking my book, The Never-Ending End of the World, so much that they asked if they could publish it. Of course, I said yes, and now it's available for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and anywhere else books are sold.

Stuff I Love

Writing

Does this really need elaboration?

Reading

Writers are readers, and I *love* reading. Unsurprisingly, I love science fiction and stories set in the apocalypse. Nothing is better than curling up with a good book, but I do a lot of reading via audiobooks these days too.

Painting

I love to do watercolor and oil paintings, mainly. I have varying degrees of success, but I'll let you be the judge. Check out my art page under my blog.

The Ocean

I mean... you kind of have to love the water to be in the Navy. I love everything about the ocean from sailing on it to studying the creatures that live beneath its surface, to monitoring PH levels to ensure the ecosystem is in balance.

Video Games

It's true. I love 'em. I've got an Xbox and everything. I love playing games like Skyrim, Witcher 3, and Mass Effect. Give me a sword and let me fight things. Give me a gun and let me shoot things. I'm a simple gal like that.

Science

Okay, so between this and the video games, I guess the secrets out. I'm a nerd. I love learning about physics and applying them in whacky, fun ways to the books I write.

I think of writing fiction as a form of mental zombie-ism in reverse. I get to put a little piece of my brain into yours and stay there with you—safely tucked away inside your gray matter— for as long as you remember my story."

I came across your books recently, starting with the duology Portals. It was excellent. Very enjoyable. Yesterday, I finished Gerard The Guardian. Again, an excellent novel. I was looking forward to the 2nd book, but to my surprise, you hadn’t written one. I hope at some point you will.

Hi Peter – I’m so happy you enjoyed Portals and Girard! The vampire novel has a special place in my heart since that’s the one that got me on the USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestseller’s lists. I didn’t originally intend to write more in that world, but…well…I decided to leave that door open. I even have a pretty good idea what the book will be about. Alas, I’m swamped! I’ve been working with my publisher for the last few years on a book and need to get out three others. Will it happen? I’m not entirely sure, but I hope so. Thank you so much for reading!

MS. Christy CDR, US Navy Ret.

Just finished reading Portals. Enjoyed reading it so much. What a pleasant change from the typical Shoot-em-up Space Operas

Was surprised it took 3 years to write but that shows in the quality of the writing. Also surprised but pleased that the author was a retired Navy Officer!

I am a retired Army LTC also living by the sea (in a Navy town – Jacksonville FL) with an overload dog and two salty language cats. Guess they are standard issue for retired military officers.

I will read the sequel and am sure I will enjoy it as much

    Stay safe during the pandemic

To demonstrate how egalitarian I am, I actually have friends that were in the Navy

Dominion Rising was a limited release, which means it’s no longer available as a collection. Girard The Guardian isn’t in publication anywhere right now. I wasn’t going to publish it as a stand-alone novel until I wrote another book in that world. If you’d like to keep up on that, join the VIP list here and I’ll send out the call for those who want to ARC it before it’s published on its own. Best…

I really miss your writing Ann, like the deserts miss the rain. When I think of the authors that I love to read you’re at the top of the list. The ones that are still alive that is. Come back to us and spin your tales.

    Always waiting

    Greetings Ann,

As one vet to another, thank you for your service. I just read Peace Force in Bridge Across the Stars: A Sci-Fi Bridge Original Anthology. I loved the depth of characterization and your take on how the technological singularity might pan out. Your philosophical insights on how humans dehumanize others to make killing them acceptable was an excellent cautionary commentary. I hope you take this as a compliment: your style and themes reminded me of Heinlein’s Starship Troopers (the book, not the movies).

You mentioned you have been working on the main novel for the Peace Force story for 4 years (or so). I just finished writing my first book, Captives of the Singularity, after 6 years so I can identify with the urge to “get it right”. Hope you finish the book soon!

Let me start by thanking you for sharing your life with your country. Your veteran status is just another amazing aspect of an obviously amazing person. It was well over 60 years ago I read my first Sci-Fi, by no less accomplished author than Robert Heinlein. In all that time I have never had an urge to review a book or correspond with an author. Until now.
I have not read the Wool series but that was no impediment. I started Silo 49: Going Dark expecting a short tale about the survival of man kind. What I got was a short tale about reasonably ordinary people who step up to the survival of humanity. A neat switch which I confess I didn’t see coming. I will most assuredly look for your name again.
By the way, I like your art as well.

Captain C! I’m so glad to have heard from you! Glad you liked them. Much has changed since those books (in fact, those two books are on their second, improved, editions). I even made the bestsellers lists (#14 and #4), which is more than I ever expected. It was wonderful to see a familiar name here. Best to you, Ann

Thank you so much, Mr. Neuhardt! I’m honored. I’m also thrilled that you enjoyed Silo 49. It was my first series of books, so they hold a special place in my heart. Best regards, Ann

Ann, this is Ray C from your last duty station. I finally got to read your books Yankari and Strikers while on vacation this summer. I enjoyed both. Creative, suspenseful, gripping. Thanks for the books, your service to our Navy and nation, and your zest for life.

I really enjoy your work, and just came to the realization that I hadn’t received a newsletter in a long time. I checked my past mail and found it was since last October!

Is there perhaps a problem with your mailing list or just no newsletters since October? I suppose I could just re-sign up, but would rather not have my name down twice if it’s already there. I like subscribing to newsletters from all my authors so I know when a new book is released, and also sometimes to take advantage of bargains on new releases.

I see two new books of yours I haven’t read – Dark Collections Book 1 & 2. I’ll certainly be buying those two.

I did a military sci-fi piece set in the Between Life and Death world for Dark Discoveries magazine. I liked it and am thinking of more in the future. For Summer 2017, I’ll be releasing an entire trilogy…set in space!

Ann, just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the Silo 49 series. When I saw a free Ann Christy book “In Betweeners”, I got it and loved it.

How about some more hard-core sci-fi? Maybe military sci-fi with your naval background.

    Thanks

    Somesh

So glad you liked it! That’s the whole story right there. I was working on creating an entire world with as few words as possible. I like how it turned out. Thanks for reading!

So, I had planned to spend the last couple of days marketing my own books (sales have been a little slow lately) but I opened “Eastlands” and, yeah, got hooked on the continuing story of Karas Quick and her friends… The end result: No marketing but, what the heck, I was probably never going to get rich writing books anyway 🙂 Great story Ann, I’ll post reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, etc. Can’t wait for the third book in the trilogy…

    Hello Ann,
I’m working on a series of my own, with the first book , “The Falcon Flies Alone” coming out in August with Five Directions Press, a small, quality-focused publishing co-op. I like to connect with, and read, other Indie authors in the fantasy/dystopian genre. Your books and website looked interesting.
    Are you an Indie writer?
    Warm regards,
    Gabrielle Mathieu

I was recently introduced to your work by a free copy of In Betweener, and have been gorging on your work since. Your books are so compelling, they take me out of myself. I have multiple autoimmune and neurological disorders; finding great stories to lose myself in is the best of serendipity.

Thank you so very much for the hours of pleasure I’ve had with your creations so far, and in the future.

Really pleased to get another Perfect Partners book today, since I just finished reading the series back to back after discovering it in the Robot Chronicles. Excellent plots and all so different. I think Dogcatcher was my favorite.

In addition to just being darn good stories, the observations on human emotions continually give you pause.

Keep up the great writing. I loved the Silo 49 series and Strikers. Excited that another Strikers will be coming soon. Also looking forward to Lulu.

Hopefully you keep at the PePrs stories.

I just read Deep Dark and was wowed. I did not realize that by happenstance I had jumped into the middle of the series. The foreboding that our whole species is on the other edge of extinction is pervasive

    Ann,

You might remember me from FWC – AGC Miller. I didn’t realize that you had written the Silo 49 series as a compliment of Hugh Howey’s Wool series. Awesome job!! I am so glad you are doing well. Take care of yourself!!

It does that sometimes, even to stuff I sign up for. Luckily, Gmail learns what you like so if you mark it as “not spam” then next time, it is more likely to put it in your inbox. I sure wish I knew how many that happened to. Since I run a ‘verified’ campaign via MailChimp, it’s not supposed to happen, but nothing is perfect. Thanks for telling me! Have a great day!
